Update: Shooting victim identified

The man killed in a shooting in Cowey Road this morning has been identified.

THE victim who was killed in botched robbery at a Cowey Road travel agency this morning has been identified as Hoosen Dhoda.

Provincial police spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said a case of murder is under investigation by Berea SAPS.  According to Zwane, 47-year-old Dhoda was shot and killed when two suspects approached him and shot at him. “Nothing was taken,” he said.

Zwane said no arrests have been made yet. He said the incident was reported around 8am this morning.

Traumatised staff members and some of the victim’s family who were in tears, as well as the local business community watched silently as the mortuary van took the body away. Staff later returned to work at the travel agency.

Dhoda was an accountant working at the Cowey Road travel agency. “Those gathered outside the business said he was a “quiet and humble person.”

The  murder has alarmed the business community around the area.

A Cowey Road businessman known only as Clint told Berea Mail he came to the scene to find out what happened. “As businessmen just a few metres away, we are very concerned about crime in the area. It is not acceptable,” he said.
