Bad weather affects Eskom networks

Thousands of people have been left without power after inclement weather disrupted Eskom networks.

ESKOM networks have been badly affected by inclement weather. According to a media release from Eskom, the snowfalls experienced since Sunday, 24th July  in the Nottingham Road, Underberg, Kokstad and Bergville areas resulted in a number of faults on the Eskom networks. Approximately 19 029 customers on several networks were initially interrupted. Several roads were closed which prevented staff from accessing some of the networks.

According to an Eskom spokesperson, staff have been working around the clock to determine the extent of damage and restore the lines back to service, in accessible areas. Supply to 16 229 customers has been restored. Faults on 12 networks, affecting 2800 customers, are currently being attended to.

The lower south coast of KZN also experienced heavy rainfalls resulting in flooding and numerous faults on the Eskom network. 14706 Customers on several networks have been impacted. Eskom is currently isolating damaged infrastructure to reinstate healthy network whilst repairs are being co-ordinated concurrently.
Customers are advised to treat all installations as live for safety reasons.
