Appeals for food, blankets as Sydenham residents hit by floods

Requests for warm food, clothing, blankets and household items have been made after areas of Sydenham were flooded this afternoon. Parts of the area are currently without power.

PARTS of Sydenham have been severely hit by flooding.
DA election ward candidate, Christopher Pappas has been helping residents affected by rising waters this afternoon. He told Berea Mail that there are some areas of Sydenham without power.

He urged residents and those driving in the area to be cautious as manhole covers have been forced off by the heavy pressure of the water leaving the holes exposed but covered by water.

“People should not attempt to drive through deep water, rather wait until the water has subsided a bit,” he said.
Residents whose homes are flooded are advised to turn off their power at the mains before the water rises further.
A request has been made for household items, food and blankets for those worse hit by the weather.

Anyone able to help with donations of items can contact Mr Pappas on 081 017 6622.

“We are looking for blankets, clothes and especially warm meals as the power has gone out in parts of Sydenham. There are also some residents in Lacey Road informal settlement whose shacks have been badly affected,” he said.
