Snow, rain expected this weekend

Be prepared for a wet, cold weekend!

STOCK up on wood for the fireplace, put a pot of soup, curry or hearty stew on the stove and whatever you do, don’t leave home without your brolly and something warm to wrap up in this weekend! According to the South African Weather Services temperatures are expected to drop dramatically this weekend and there is an 80 per cent chance of heavy rainfall.

Saturday’s expected maximum temperature is 12 degrees falling to 9 degrees with 30 percent chance of showers. Sunday’s temperatures of 14 degrees dropping to 9 degrees will be accompanied by heavy showers which are expected to continue through till Tuesday next week when temperatures start warming up.

According to the SA Snow Forecast, snow is possible on Saturday in Kokstad, the Drakensberg, Lesotho and the KZN Midlands.  By Sunday morning, snow should be falling in the Midlands, Drakensberg and Lesotho and will continue all day in these areas.

By Sunday afternoon the snow is predicted to extend into the Eastern Cape and areas of the Free State around Harrismith. Futher snow will be seen on Sunday night in the KZN Midlands, the Free State, Kokstad and Matatiele as well as the entire Drakensberg, Lesotho and into the Eastern Cape, including Hogsback.

The Midlands will still experience snow in isolated areas on Monday. Snowfalls will be over by Tuesday.
