UMBILO police together with the CPF donated 67 packs of much needed sanitary towels to the young girls at Durban Child and Youth Care Centre in Glenwood as part of their 67 minutes for Mandela Day.

According to Captain Pumzile Makaula, communications officer at the station, they wanted to get involved and help the home in a way which was really needed. “When we realised that sanitary towels was a much needed item at the Home we knew it was the way to go. We wanted to support the Centre and offer encouragement for them to continue the wonderful work they do,” she said.

Speaking at the handover ceremony where officers shared tea and refreshments with staff of the Centre, Colonel Richard Ximba, head of Umbilo detectives said, “Mandela Day is an important day and I am happy that we as Umbilo SAPS are doing this for the children at the home.”

Pearl Mageza of the Umbilo CPF said they were keen to help out with tea and refreshments.

Ntombenhle Mkhwanazi, child care manager at the Durban Child and Youth Care Centre, expressed her gratitude to the Umbilo SAPS and thanked them for their continued support.
