Star party aims to set a record

The ASSA Durban Centre is attempting to set a record and would like to assemble the largest number of people observing the sky on a given evening.

THE Astronomical Society of Southern Africa (ASSA) Durban Annual Star Party will be at St Henry’s Marist  College, South Ridge Road, on Friday 8 July starting at 6pm.

The ASSA Durban Centre is attempting to set a record and would like to assemble the largest number of people observing the sky on a given evening.

Take your binoculars, telescopes, night vision glasses, anything with which you can view the sky, and join dozens of people who will attempt to set a record for the city of Durban. If you do not have a telescope or pair of binoculars, feel free to use the Society’s equipment.

This will be a fun evening filled with excitement for the whole family. Go hear an interesting audio-visual presentation starting at 7pm, entitled ‘Introduction to the night sky’. This will be followed by an opportunity to view exciting objects in the sky through a number of powerful telescopes.

Take your own picnic supper or meat and enjoy fun and fellowship under the stars.
Braai facilities supplied free of charge.
