Car bursts into flames outside Islamic Centre

A car caught alight outside the Islamic Centre in Hendry Road on 5 July.

AT around 7.38pm on Tuesday evening (5 July) Netcare 911 paramedics and the fire department responded to a fire  in Hendry Road, Springfield.

Reports from the scene indicate that a vehicle was parked, when for unknown reasons it ran forward and collided into an area where a fire was made in preparation for a festival at the Islamic Centre.

Chris Botha from Netcare 911 said paramedics and firefighters arrived at the scene and found the car fully engulfed in flames.
“Firemen battled the blaze and brought the fire under control. One person sustained moderate burns during the fire and was treated at the scene before medics transported him to a Durban hospital for further care,” he said.
