Murder investigated after man falls at Currie Road site

Berea police are investigating a case of murder after a man fell off the sixth floor at a Currie Road construction site this morning.

BEREA police are investigating a murder case after a man fell to his death at a construction site on Currie Road.

According to Berea SAPS communications officer, Captain PN Naidoo, the incident occurred just after 7.30am when the construction workers were about to start their day. “There was a dispute between two construction workers and one allegedly pushed the other off the sixth floor of the building site,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Garrith Jamieson operations director for RescueCare, said paramedics and EMRS arrived on the scene to assess the patient around 8am, however they found the young man had sustained critical injuries when he fell. “He had unfortunately passed away before paramedics arrived and was declared deceased at the scene,” Jamieson said.

While Captain Naidoo could not give Berea Mail further details of the incident, he did confirm that a 19-year-old suspect was arrested. The young man is believed to be 25 years old.

Berea police officers were at the scene investigating the incident, however work continued in parts of the site.
