Accidents wreak havoc on roads

There were a number of accidents during the June 16 holiday.

A BIKER sustained serious injuries after colliding with a car on Avondale Road near Mitchell Cresent in Greyville, Durban on Thursday evening, 16 June.

Rescue Care’s operations director, Garrith Jamieson, said: “Paramedics arrived on scene to find that a bike and car had collided head-on. The biker was found lying in the road, having suffered serious injuries. Advanced life support paramedics worked to stabilise the woman on the scene before transporting her to a nearby hospital.”

He said it was unclear what had caused the collision, however the SAPS was on scene and are investigating.

In a separate incident on the same day, six people were injured when a truck and a car collided at the intersection of Clark Road and Manning Road in Umbilo just after 2.30pm. Jamieson said paramedics arrived on the scene to find that a truck and a car had collided in the junction before the truck came to rest on its side, balancing against a wall.

“The truck driver and one assistant were trapped in the truck as it lay on its side. Paramedics climbed into the truck and stabilised the two patients while the Durban Fire and Rescue team prepared the jaws of life and other hydraulic equipment to free them.”

Once the patients had been freed from the truck they were then transported to a nearby hospital. One other assistant was also injured and transported to hospital. In the second vehicle, three people had sustained various injuries and were also stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital. He said that it is unclear what caused the collision. The SAPS will be investigating.
