Extra security for orchestra audiences

There's no excuse that it's too dangerous to go to the city to enjoy the orchestra as extra security officers will now be keeping a watchful eye open.

EVER mindful of ensuring the safety of audiences, the KZN Philharmonic and Citi-Eyes Security hasa vigilant and active plan in place to protect and chaperone audience members to and from the Durban City Hall every Thursday evening during concert season.

For the past 10 years the audiences of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra have been under the watchful eyes of Dion Botha’s proactive security company Citi-Eyes. He has 30 guards wearing easily-identifiable yellow neon bibs, strategically placed along all pedestrian routes around the City Hall before during and after every Thursday concert.

Botha explains: “Safety and security is our mandate and protecting the orchestra’s audiences coming in and out of the City Hall is our number one priority.”

His intention is that no music lover should ever use the excuse that it’s too dangerous to come to the city and enjoy the orchestra perform because his team are always there to keep a watchful eye.

Botha is an ex-police officer with international experience who has been part of specialist project teams involved in anti-child-trafficking and anti-piracy.

The KZN Philharmonic is half way through its six week Winter Season, performing every Thursday in the Durban City Hall.

The orchestra continues its primary mission of bringing excellence in music making to the city of Durban. The Winter Season features top South African and international musicians in an eclectic and carefully created programme of amazing music.

“We are committed to bringing the highest quality concerts to Durban thereby enriching the city and province through music,” said Bongani Tembe: CEO and Artistic Director of the KZN Philharmonic.
