Pupils injured in collisions

Fifteen school children were injured in an accident on Thursday afternoon, this after seven school children were injured after another collision in Durban on Tuesday morning.

FIFTEEN school children have been injured after the taxi there were travelling home in collided with a power box in Donlene Crescent Glenmore on Thursday afternoon.

According to Garrith Jamieson, operations director of Rescue Care, paramedics arrived to find 15 school children had sustained various injuries ranging from minor to moderate. “They were stabilised on scene before being transported to hospitals,” he explained.

Jamieson said it was unclear what caused the single vehicle to collide with a power box, however SAPS were on scene and will be investigating further.

Parts of Glenmore were plunged into darkness as a result of the collision. Earlier this week, eight people, including seven school children, were injured after two vehicles were involved in a T-bone collision on Booth Road in Chesterville on Tuesday morning.

“One of the vehicles was transporting school children to school when the incident happened. One of the children sustained moderate injuries and was stabilised by Advanced Life Support Paramedics. Once all the injured had been stabilised they were transported to Hospital,” Jamieson said.
