Security officer chases down thief

Blue Security officers were on the ball in Morningside last week.

BLUE Security armed response officers arrested two suspects in Morningside over the past week.

Operations manager Brian Jackson said an armed response officer had arrested a suspect in Mitchell Crescent in Morningside when he spotted him carrying a stolen high pressure cleaner.

“When the suspect saw our officer in the vehicle he started to run. A resident advised our officer to chase him because he had allegedly seen the suspect sneak into his garage and steal the machine while he was busy working,” he said.

The officer gave chase and the suspect dropped the machine and fled, but was arrested in Avondale Road and brought back to the premises where he was handed over to the Berea police.

Jackson said a second suspect was arrested for trespassing in Sutton Crescent early on Sunday morning.

“Our officer questioned the suspect who claimed that he had placed his goods on the business’s perimeter wall and items had fallen into the property. He said he had jumped over to retrieve the items,” he said.

Jackson said the suspect was released on a strong warning on instruction of the business manager who did not want to involve the police.
