Brace for petrol hike this week

Motorists face a 52 cents hike in petrol this week.

MOTORISTS will have to dig a little deeper into their pockets from Wednesday, 1 June when the price of petrol and diesel goes up.

According to a release by the Central Energy Fund, prices will jump by 52 cents across all grades of petrol and there is a hike of 76 cents in diesel. The CPF said the international product prices of petrol, diesel and paraffin has increased and the rand has weakened against the US dollar, which has led to the current hike in fuels.

The weakening of the Rand against the US Dollar increased the contribution to the Basic Fuels Price on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 22.1 c/l, 20.65 c/l and 20.39 c/l respectively. Taking the increases into account, motorists can expect to pay R12,78 per litre for 95 petrol on the coast and R13,26 inland.
