Durbanites support Dare2Care initiative

Locals enjoyed a cool night sleeping outside the Durban City Hall in support of iCare's iDare2Care CIty Sleepover.

LOCALS gathered with friends and family including young children to support the second iDare2Care City Sleep Over hosted by iCare, the Denis Hurley Centre and eThekweni Municipality last night, Friday, 20 May.

Many Durbanites who participated in the initiative, felt the experience was an “eye opener” while others felt it was “humbling.”

Tamara Robinson Scott told Berea Mail, she was determined to bring teenage son, Skye to the sleepover to expose him to the reality facing many financially strapped South Africans.

Gail Elson, marketing manager for iCare was happy with the great response from Durban residents. “We had more than 500 people pre-register to participate tonight and at least 250 people arrived to register this evening and we had about 250 homeless people come through so far and we are hoping more come through the night to get assistance from the organisations that have come through to help. The night is progressing well, people have shared their dinner with the homeless and listened to their plight,” she added.
