House breaker arrested, laptop recovered

Berea police arrested a housebreaking suspect and and recovered a laptop in the early hours of Thursday morning.

BEREA police officers made a good arrest in the early hours of Thursday morning while patrolling along Botanic Gardens Road.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, communications officer at Berea SAPS, crime prevention officers, Constables Erasmus and Everton were patrolling at about 2am when they spotted a man acting suspiciously. “When they stopped to search him, the suspect started running and the officers chased him on foot and caught him. The man was searched and a laptop was found wrapped in his jacket,” he said.

Naidoo said further investigations revealed the suspect had broken into a home in Botanic Gardens Road and he was detained for housebreaking.

Meanwhile the crime prevention team also arrested a suspicious man who was searched and found carrying five live 9mm ammunition at about 5am later that morning. “The suspect was charged for unlawful possession of live ammunition,” concluded Naidoo.
