Water restrictors not for sale, says city

eThekwini Municipality said the municipality is installing water restrictors, and people are not to employ companies to do this work.

WTER restrictors are not for sale! That's the message from eThekwini Municipality who announced today that it had been brought to its attention that certain individuals are charging home owners for the installation of water restrictors.

The city has embarked on a campaign to install water restrictors to more than 500 000 households in eThekwini in an attempt to save more water during the current drought crisis,. Municipal spokesperson, Thulani Mbatha, said the installation is done free of charge and the restrictors are not for sale.

“Residents should note that Municipal officials and contracted companies installing restrictors will not go inside homes, but will install the restrictors at the water meter which is situated outside the residence. If anyone posing as a Municipal employee demands payment for the installation, they should immediately be reported at the nearest police station,” he said.

Mbatha said water pressure will be reduced after the installation of water restrictors..

“Together we can successfully reduce the impact of the drought by changing our behaviour every day. It is possible to reduce the amount of water we use. We can all do it,” he said.
