Belt thief arrested

Berea police arrested a 20-yer-old man for being in possession of suspected stolen property and detained him at the station last Thursday afternoon.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, communications officer at Berea SAPS, Captain Kevin Stephen and his men were patrolling near The Atrium (Overport City) when they noticed a suspicious man walking along the road. “The policemen stopped and searched the suspect and found a lot of belts on him. When they questioned him about where he got so many belts from and what he was doing with them, the suspect could not give a reasonable explanation and was arrested,” Naidoo said.

Suspected car thieves nabbed

Two men, a 26 and 32-year-old were arrested for being in possession of car breaking implements on Friday night.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, Captain Stephen and his crime prevention officers were patrolling in Greyville around 9pm when they noticed two suspicious men walking along the road looking into parked vehicles.

“They stopped and searched the suspects and found them in possession of car breaking implements,” said Naidoo.

Drunk driver released on bail

A 20-year-old man was arrested for driving drunk on Florida Road, late on Friday night and later released on bail.

Two men, aged 22 and 32 were arrested for possession of dagga on Friday night on Steve Biko Road.

Crime awareness tips

Lieutenant PN Naidoo urged the community to eliminate the opportunity for criminals to commit crimes by following a few tips. “Do not leave valuables exposed in vehicles or close to open windows in your property. Make sure that when you park your vehicle at a mall your vehicle is locked, and double check the doors and always check that you were not followed or being watched,” he advised.
