March for peace and Ubuntu

The annual Mahatma Gandhi Salt March will be on Saturday at the beachfront.

THE Annual Mahatma Gandhi Salt March takes place on Sunday 24 April, at 9am.

This year the 5km march will start at the Amphitheatre on the beachfront, and marchers will walk to uShaka Marine World and back to the Amphitheatre. The march is not a competition, and is organised to show solidarity with the principles of Ubuntu and non-violence. It also celebrates the values espoused by Mahatma Gandhi and Inkosi Albert Luthuli.

Spokesperson for the Gandhi Development Trust, Kidar Ramgobin, said: “By participating we can once again pledge our support to build a strong fellowship on strong, solid principles. Let’s make this year’s march the event of the year for non-violence. The Trust appeals to all community organisations and individuals that identify with the same ideals to participate in the march.”

There is no entry fee. Participants can register online at www.gdt.co.za or can register on the day between 7.30am to 8.30am.
