THE Durban International Convention Centre has taken the title of “Africa’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre” at the World Travel Awards once again.

The award was conveyed at a red carpet event at the Diamonds La Gemma dell’Est on the northern tip of Zanzibar, Tanzania on Saturday evening.

Now in its twenty-third year, the World Travel Awards is recognised as the most respected and comprehensive awards programme across all sectors of the industry. The brand aims to celebrate those organisations which push the boundaries of industry excellence.

In the sixteen-year history of the category, the Durban ICC has been voted top of its league no less than 15 times. The international awards programme tracks hundreds of thousands of votes cast each year by travel professionals from over 200 countries. This year, the Durban ICC took top honours among nominees which included the Cape Town International Convention Centre, the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Cairo International Convention Centre, and the Sandton Convention Centre.

“This accolade bears testament to the achievements of our team. I am blessed to have a phenomenal team around me and I would like to thank them all for their passion and commitment over the past year. This award reminds us that we constantly need to be stepping up and delivering world-class service to all our clients and guests,” said Rakharebe.
