Top entertainment at Crime Awareness Day

Berea police invite the community to their exciting Crime Awareness Day, filled with displays and activities for the community at Berea Park on Saturday, 16 April.

BEREA police are excited to meet members of the community and forge stronger relationships in fighting crime at their annual Crime Awareness Day next Saturday, 16 April from 9am to 5pm at Berea Park (Essenwood).

The festivities begin with a motorcade which starts at 9am from Curries Fountain Stadium running through the Berea SAPS precinct area ending up at the corner of Silverton and Musgrave Road at 10am.

“The motorcade will join the marching procession from this point to the grounds finishing at about 11am to the official opening of the event.

There will be road closures from Silverton and Stephen Dlamini (Essenwood) Road, leading up to the Berea Park grounds. The Musgrave Centre is part of the event and centre management has asked that all shoppers use the Musgrave Road entrance and exit out of the centre during the road closures,” explained Sergeant Trevor James, Berea’s Sector Two Commander and CAD co-ordinator.

The procession will include the SAPS band, the One Battalion Pipe Band, the Durban Girls’ High School drummies and various mascots including the kiddies favourites from uShaka.

“We are also excited to have the SAPS Dance Band, as well as local celebrities performing during the event. There will be performances by Lendel Moonsamy of Idols and The Voice fame, Lello Green, DJ Tira, The SAPS Choir (Polmusca), DJ Vijen and many more artists. Comperes for the event are Trevor Williams and DJ Devan. They are offering their services free to the community and are all very dedicated to help fight crime,” said James.

Various government departments and security companies will also give demonstrations at the grounds. “The entry is free and we would love the community to join us,” added James.
