Date set for local government elections

President Jacob Zuma has announced the date for the 2016 local government elections.

PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma has announced the local government elections will take place on Wednesday, 3 August this year.

In a statement released by the presidency, president Zuma encouraged all South Africans who are eligible to vote, in particular, the youth who are voting for the first time, to register for the local elections during the voter registration weekend of 9 to 10 April.

“We urge all those who are eligible to vote to register to vote and those that have not checked their names to do so on Saturday and Sunday this weekend so that together we continue to reaffirm and deepen our democracy,” Zuma said.
