Big hike in petrol looms

Motorists will have to dig deeper from next week as fuel prices rise.

MOTORISTS can brace themselves for a whopping fuel increase of  about 83 cents a litre and an estimated increase in diesel of 95 cents a litre from 6 April.

According to the  Automobile Association,  petrol would go up by about 83 cents a litre which included the additional 30 cents a litre fuel levy.  The increase is due to the rise in international prices of petroleum products.

The AA warned motorists that further substantial  fuel price increases could occur should oil prices continue to rise. It said  fuel tariffs would rise sharply before the end of the year should the exchange rate continue to deteriorate, oil prices remain high and the country suffer a ratings downgrade
