Eleven injured in Easter weekend crashes

A motorcyclist was moderately injured in an accident at the Esther Roberts and Davenport intersection on Good Friday.

THE Easter weekend got off to problematic start with two separate motorbike collisions on Good Friday evening, which left three people injured.

Garrith Jamieson, operations director at Rescue Care said just after 4.30pm, paramedic’s were called to the intersection of Esther Roberts and Davenport Road.

rate injuries and was stabilised by our Advanced Life Support paramedic before being transported to a nearby hospital for further care,” he explained.

Around 6pm that evening Rescue Care paramedics  responded to a second motorbike collision on Argyle Road near Avondale Road. This time Jamieson said paramedics found the two occupants of the bike had been injured, one seriously so. “Paramedics worked to stabilize the young lady on the scene before transporting her to a nearby hospital for the further care that she required,” he added.

Seventeen people were injured four seriously so after a taxi and a car collided at the intersection of Smith Street and Gardiner Street on Easter Sunday just before 10am.

Jamieson said they arrived on the scene and found total chaos. “A fully loaded taxi collided with a car in the junction after which the taxi overturned. Bystanders rushed to the taxi and lifted it back onto its wheels to help free the injured commuters,” he explained.

 

One passenger was entrapped in the wreckage and the Durban Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life to cut the patient free. “Once all of the injured had been stabilised, they were transported to various hospitals for further care,” he added.

Jamieson said while it is unclear what caused the collisions, the necessary authorities were on scene and will be investigating further.
