Theft of brass numbers on the rise

Community members are encouraged to come through to the police station to view a few brass numbers

BEREA police are encouraging the community living near the Avondale area to come through to the station to view a few brass numbers which were recovered by police last Thursday morning.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, police members were on patrol when they received a complaint of a theft in progress in Avondale Road. “The members responded and arrested two men with brass numbers and tools to remove the numbers off the walls,” he said.

The men aged 25 and 28 years old, were charged with theft and for being in possession of implements used to commit crimes. The three numbers recovered were “1, 5, 0.”

Good arrests

Berea police were patrolling along Currie and Cowey Road on two occasions last Thursday afternoon when they noticed suspicious people walking on the road. “The officers stopped and searched the suspects and found them with dagga, both men were charged with possession of dagga and detained at Berea SAPS,” explained Lt Naidoo.

Berea police also arrested a man who was pushing a purple bicycle in Morningside on Saturday afternoon.

According to Lt Naidoo, officers were on patrol in Innes Road when they noticed the suspicious man pushing the children’s bicycle. “When they stopped to question him, the suspect left the bicycle and fled. “Officers chased and also called for back up and eventually the suspect was arrested in Lambert Road. He was charged for possession of property suspected to be stolen and resisting arrest and detained at Berea SAPS.”
