Stolen items recovered

The Durban Central K9 unit arrested a man on the Point for being in possession of wedding rings and digital cameras suspected to be stolen.

THE Durban Central K9 Unit arrested a man for being in possession of goods suspected to be stolen in the Point area last Tuesday afternoon.

According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala, it is alleged that the members were performing crime prevention duties in the Point area, when they spotted a suspicious white Hyundai which was parked on the side of the road. “Upon searching the vehicle they recovered digital cameras, three wedding rings and other items,” she explained.

Gwala said the 29-year-old driver of the vehicle failed to give an explanation as to who the owned the items and was arrested and charged for possession of goods suspected to be stolen. He appeared in the Durban Magistrates’ Court.

KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended K9 Unit members for the arrest of the suspect. “We will investigate as to where the recovered goods were stolen,” she said.
