Housebreakers arrested

LUCK ran out for two thieves last week when Berea police thwarted their housebreaking attempt.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, communications officer at Berea SAPS, Captain Kevin Stephen received information on a housebreaking in progress in Berea Park Road.

“The Captain and his crime prevention team responded and arrested two suspects and recovered two fishing rods, banners and banner stands as well as a 15 inch tyre. The suspects were detained at Berea SAPS for housebreaking and theft,” Naidoo added.

Random searches to continue

Berea SAPS will hold continuous random operations from time to time, which includes stop and search of motor vehicles and persons on a daily basis. “The operations prevent crime as well as increases the visibility of police in the area and are done to make the public safe and reduce crime. The public must please cooperate with the rules of the operations,” said Naidoo.

Crime Awareness tips

Berea police advise the community to park vehicles in well lit areas.

“Our problem crimes are theft of motor vehicles and theft out of motor vehicles so always check your car before entry, make sure no one is hiding inside, especially at night,” Lt Naidoo said.

Motorists should never pick up a hitch hiker particularly at night and always be alert near gates, driveways or garages. “Don’t stop to eat or rest on lonely roads rather use a filling station when driving and if you get a flat tyre and the area is quiet keep driving until you get to a safe place to change the tyre,” he added.
