Berea police arrest suspect in pub shooting

Berea police have made a huge arrest in the case of a Morningside pub shooting this week.

BEREA police arrested a suspect on Tuesday afternoon who was on the run for attempted murder after an altercation which resulted in a shooting at a Morningside pub earlier this month.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, communications officer at Berea SAPS, the shooting occurred at a pub on Lillian Ngoyi (Windermere) Road (Flagons and Dragons) in the early hours of Sunday, 6 March.

“According to reports, the suspect went into the pub with his girlfriend late on Saturday night and after a while he allegedly had an argument with another customer and took out his licensed firearm and aimed it and shot in the direction of the complainant twice,” explained Naidoo.

The complainant managed to duck and survived the attack unharmed, however bullets ricocheted and hit the wall damaging the dart board and pool table. “The suspect then allegedly went outside the bar, and continued to discharge his weapon in the air, in full view of customers dinning at the restaurant across the road, before he fled in a Silver vehicle,” said Naidoo.

Patrons at the restaurant allegedly left their meals and scattered around the restaurant in fear. After investigations and enquiries, Captain Thomas Naidoo with Warrant Officer JD Sibeko tracked down and arrested the 24-year-old suspect, in Phoenix. He was charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm and malicious damage to property.
