Security guard stops mugging

A Blue Security officer came to the assistance of a woman who was being mugged in Cleaver Road.

A BLUE Security armed response officer who was in the right place at the right time spotted a mugging in progress in Glenwood and swooped on the alleged robber on Monday night.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the armed response officer was driving along Cleaver Road at around 8pm when he noticed the robber mugging a woman of her cellphone.

“He fled the scene with the cellphone and jumped over a wall near Berea Road but our officer chased him and arrested him on the corner of Noble and Moore Road,” he said.

The guard searched the alleged robber who told him that he had dropped the cellphone while he was running and that another student had picked it up.

“Our officer took him back to the scene of the crime and the suspect identified the student who had picked up the phone. The phone was returned to the victim and the suspect was handed over to the Umbilo SAPS,” he said.

Jackson added that a brazen housebreaker was arrested in Cromwell Road at around 3.20pm on Friday.

“Our officer was patrolling the street when a car guard advised him that he had spotted a suspect jumping into a property. He went to investigate and found the housebreaker hiding inside the house,” he said.

Jackson said the housebreaker had damaged the front security gate but had been unable to open the door. He went on to force open the kitchen door to gain entry. The officer arrested the housebreaker and handed him over to the Berea SAPS at the scene of the crime.

“We commend the great work of the car guard, the police and our officers whose quick thinking led to these arrests and we appeal to the public to be proactive about pressing charges in such cases to ensure that criminals are brought to book for their crimes,” he said.
