Its the end of an era as legendary pianist Les Dolley who spent more than 66 years entertaining hundreds of thousands of people in his astounding professional career.

RENOWNED Durban pianist and music teacher, Les Dolley succumbed to a short illness over the weekend.

The pianist, who celebrated 64 years of wedded bliss with his wife Estelle, also a classically trained pianist, last month, was known for his infectious, bubbly personality that drew people to him.

The pianist moved to Durban shortly after his marriage in 1952 and has been a resident of the Berea since 1980.

As a professional pianist, Les had entertained for more than 66 years, including a world record gig at The Old Roma Restaurant where he played six nights a week for 30 years. His love for music and people ensured he was a sought after piano teacher who taught piano and keyboard for the last 33 years.

Les recently retired from playing and teaching in August last year and he and Estelle were living at Nazareth House where they still have their beloved Steinway Grand Piano that they have owned since 1963.
