KZN police crack down on illegal guns

KZN police are continuing to recover more firearms in the hands of criminals in the province.

OPERATIONS to root-out firearms in the province of KwaZulu-Natal continue to reap good results, says KZN SAPS.

These operations were conducted in the various KZN clusters and were conducted from 6 to 13 March. A total of 41 unlicensed firearms which include 35 pistols, two homemade firearms, an AK47, three rifles and an assortment of 138 live rounds of ammunition were confiscated during the operations.

A total 42 suspects were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. They appeared in various magistrates’ courts across the province.

KZN Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended police for their dedication in cleaning up the province.

“These operations will continue in the KZN province to ensure that those illegal firearms that are in the hands of the criminals are confiscated and those possessing it are brought to book,” she said.
