Calls for public opinion on inner city plans

The public is invited to an open day to comment on the draft eThekwini inner city local area plan.

THE public is invited to attend an open day on Friday, 18 March at the Durban Exhibition Centre Coast of Dreams, where they can view the draft planning proposals that have been prepared for the eThekwini inner city area.

The public can visit any time between 9am and 3pm to view the proposals.

eThekwini Municipality’s Tozi Mthethwa said the open day is intended to provide the community with the opportunity to view the draft proposals and comment on this major city planning initiative.

“The Inner City Area Plan is geared towards developing and regenerating the inner city. The aim is to create a City of liveable communities where government, commerce and culture thrive. EThekwini will ultimately be a city that offers a variety of lifestyle and recreation where the human spirit can thrive socially, economically and culturally,” she said.

Two presentations will be made during the day, the first at 9am, repeated again at 12.30pm, should the public be interested in hearing a verbal overview of the proposals. There will also be posters of the proposals on display throughout the day for viewing. Officials will be in attendance to answer any questions the public may have. Forms will also be available for the public to record their suggestions and comments on the proposals.

The project is being managed through the City’s Development Planning, Environment and Management Unit with input from a multidisciplinary Municipal staff and consultant team.

Any ideas, feedback, interesting proposals or comments related to the project can be e-mailed to InnerCity@durban.gov.za
