Suspected car thief killed in Glenwood shooting

Police confirmed that the man who died in the Glenwood shooting yesterday was an alleged car thief.

POLICE confirmed the man who was killed in a shootout in Glenwood yesterday was attempting to steal a vehicle in the area.

According to Major Thulani Zwane, provincial police spokesman, at about 11:15am on Monday, the Durban K9 unit spotted three males trying to steal a vehicle and gave chase. “The suspects fled and one 29-year-old suspect drew a toy gun, pointed at the police officers who fatally shot at him. Two other suspects aged 29 and 35 were arrested and taken to Umbilo police station for detention,” he explained.

Zwane said the two suspects will be charged for attempted theft of motor vehicle and an inquest docket was opened in respect of the dead suspect.

The suspect’s vehicle had crashed through the boundary wall into a property.
