Shocking drive by shooting in Greyville

A Durban businessman is fighting for his life in a critical condition after he was shot in what looked to be a drive by shooting on Friday night.

A local businessman is fighting for his life at a Durban hospital after he was shot in what appears to be a drive by shooting on Gladys Mazibuko (Marriot) Road on Friday night.

Captain TD Gumede, communications officer at Berea SAPS, confirmed the incident. “It is alleged that the occupants of a Toyota Fortuna opened fire injuring the man,” he said.

According to witnesses at the scene on the corner of Gladys Mazibuko and Esselmont Roads, the victim and his girlfriend were about to get into his red Porsche when they were shot at.

“The man allegedly sustained a gunshot wound to his head, at this stage he is fighting for his life in hospital,” explained Gumede.

While no arrests have been made, Gumede said the attempted murder is being investigated by Berea SAPS.

According to Leon Fourie, a paramedic of Life Response 24/7 who attended the scene, paramedics arrived to find the victim face down in a pool of blood with a crowd around him. The man sustained a gunshot wound to his left ear which was bleeding profusely. We immediately started treating him and called our Advanced life support paramedic to stabilise the man before taking him to hospital,” he explained.
