Call for public to comment on spatial development

Submit your comments on the draft spatial development plan.

EThekwini Municipality is calling on the public to submit their comments on the Draft Spatial Development Framework (SDF) 2016/17, which will guide and manage spatial development and investment in the eThekwini Region.

Deputy Mayor Nomvuzo Shabalala said the SDF is an approach to ensure that the City is able to address spatial inequalities and inefficiencies in communities, provide a high quality of life and attract investors.
“It is important for the City to have this document to guide our future growth and respond to the development needs of the Municipality,” said Shabalala
Shabalala added that as the City was faced with global environmental challenges, the framework will assist with various mechanisms to assess environmental sustainability.

The SDF 2016/17 will be available from Friday, 26 February 2016 at all Municipal Libraries and Sizakala Centres for viewing and comment.
It can also be downloaded from the eThekwini Municipality’s website: https://www.durban.gov.za/Resource_Centre/reports/Framework_Planning/Pages/default.aspx
The deadline for all comments is 26 April 2016. The public is urged to provide written comments marked for the attention of the Senior Manager: Ms Helene Epstein: Strategic Spatial Planning Branch, Development Planning Department, Room 226, 2nd Floor City Engineers Building, 166 KE Masinga Road, Durban
