13 injured in freeway taxi crash

Motorists are encouraged to drive with caution after another freeway crash yesterday afternoon.

THIRTEEN people were injured, one seriously, after four vehicles collided on the N3 West bound near Spaghetti Junction during rush hour afternoon traffic yesterday.

According to Garrith Jamieson, Rescue Care operations director, paramedics arrived to find three lanes of the national freeway blocked by the accident scene. “Our paramedics found that one passenger was entrapped in the front of the taxi whilst multiple others were on the side of the freeway. More ambulances were called to assist as well as Advanced Life Support units,” he explained.

Once all thirteen patients had been stabilised on scene by paramedics and SAPS Search and Rescue officials, they were transported to hospital. Jamieson said it was unclear what caused the collision, however the necessary authorities were on scene and will be investigating further.
