Glenwood community unite to catch cellphone thief

Glenwood community members worked together to apprehend a young cellphone thief on Saturday afternoon.

GLENWOOD community members united to chase and apprehend a knife wielding cellphone thief on Saturday.

The victim, Natalia Munsense told Berea Mail she was walking up Alan Paton towards Manning Road when she received a call on her cellphone. A teenager ran up to her and threatened her with a knife. “He demanded I give him my cellphone and ran, I was shocked and started screaming and the people around me tried to help,” she said.

Concerned community member, Tony Ball said he saw a commotion when the youngster ran down the road and drove to see if he could help. “Another guy managed to catch the young thief and I had some cable ties in my car so we we managed to tie his hands while we waited for Umbilo SAPS to arrive,” Ball explained.

“We can’t say crime doesn’t affect me and turn a blind eye because one day you might need the same assistance,” said another community member on scene.

“I really want to thank everyone who assisted in apprehending the thief, it was a community effort and a strong message to show criminals that we are sick and tired of crime,” he added.
