Glenmore couple robbed in home invasion

A couple were tied up and robbed in a home invasion in Glenmore last week.

ARMED robbers held up a couple during a home invasion in Glenmore last Wednesday night, robbing them of their firearms, television and other valuables.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said one resident was sitting watching television with the door and security gate open when the gang burst into her home in Fielden Drive just before 10.30pm.

“Three men armed with firearms and a knife jumped over the front wall and went to the back of the house where they forced the resident into a bedroom and woke up her husband. They gagged and tied up the couple before fleeing with three firearms, 18 rounds of ammunition, a flat screen television, a laptop, cellphones and other valuables. The gang fled in two vehicles which they stole from the property,” Jackson said.

Umbilo SAPS attended the scene.

Jackson said an hour later a gang of two armed robbers hit a second property in nearby Leighton Crescent in Umbilo at around 11.30pm.

“A visitor had entered the property and was about to lock the driveway gates when he was accosted by two armed men. The men forced the gate back open, pulled out a gun and robbed him of his cellphone and cash before fleeing the scene on foot,” he said.

Umbilo SAPS were called to the scene.

Jackson advised residents to be vigilant and despite the hot weather to ensure that all windows and doors were adequately secured at night.

“If you have doors and windows open at night make sure that the security gates are closed because while this might not prevent crime, it is a deterrent and will buy time to run and hide in a safe room in the house. This room should be equipped with a spare panic remote and a charged cellphone so that you can call for help in an emergency,” he said.
