Cash taken in Monday morning armed robbery

An undisclosed amount of cash was taken when three armed men robbed a cash-in-transit vehicle at a busy Morningside garage this morning.

THREE men armed with guns robbed a cash-in-transit guard at a busy Morningside garage early this morning.

According to a staff member at the garage on Peter Mokaba (North Ridge) Road, who was in the office at the time of the robbery, three men walked in just after 6am, acting as customers. “They came into our Quick Shop and only took out their guns when they were near the cash-in-transit guy, who came in to take the cash. They threatened him and took three or four canisters of cash,” she said.

The garage became the scene of a dramatic shooting when an armed gang robbed a cash-in-transit vehicle in March last year. In November 2014, a 22-year-old UKZN student, Shrivar Panday, died at the garage after an alleged smash-and-grab incident.
