New interact president for Glenwood

Glenwood High School inducted its new interact president for 2016.

THE new Interact Club president at Glenwood High School, Kishen Mudaly, was inducted last week.

Mudaly thanked the Rotary Club of Durban for the opportunity to lead the club and said he was looking forward to leading the club in 2016.

“The basic principle of outreach work is to help people who do not have resources or cannot help themselves. As Glenwood boys we should consider it our duty to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves, and that is the purpose of the Interact club,” he said.

He said the aim of the club was to raise money for various charities and organisations throughout the year, including the Jes Foord Foundation and The Sunflower Fund.

“We also plan to help out within the Glenwood community, from various cleaning-up activities to visiting old age homes and helping out at Makubongwe School. Slowly we can make the community a better place,” he said.

He announced that the club would be selling roses for Valentine's Day at the school for the boys and encouraged the boys to place their orders, and in turn raise funds.

Speaking at the induction, Rotary Club of Durban president Mike Hiron said since its beginning in 1962, Interact now has a membership of more than 300 000 youth in more than 12 000 clubs worldwide.

“It's one of Rotary's fastest growing programs. With clubs in more than 120 countries and geographical areas, Interact is truly an international phenomenon. Interact's global youth network is dedicated to community and international service. We encourage as many pupils to become involved in every Interact club project, great or small, as each has a lasting impact on society,” he said.
