Berea police worked hard to keep crime to a minimum with various arrests over the past weekend.

Household items recovered

A large amount of household items were recovered by Berea police when a house robbery suspect was arrested on Monday morning.

According to Captain TD Gumede, communications officer at Berea SAPS, the complainant went to look for his general worker who he found screaming for help. When he came close he noticed a suspect was wearing his takkies and called the police. Computers, battery chargers, takkies, a black suitcase and revolving lights were recovered on the suspect was arrested after he was found with the items taken from an apartment in Clyde Road.

Police free entrapped robber

BEREA police had to free a robbery suspect from an enclosure on DUT property before arresting him last Thursday night.

According to Captain TD Gumede, communications officer at Berea SAPS, the incident occurred around 11pm on Thursday on Botanic Gardens Road. “A youth allegedly was robbed by two knife wielding suspects who took the man’s Blackberry cellphone and red Adidas boots,” explained Gumede.

The victim later drove pass the road with friends and spotted one of the suspects. “The victim and his friends chased the suspect who fled on foot towards DUT. The suspect managed to scale a three metre high brick wall into the campus where he landed into a large container of used cooking oil and sustained minor injuries,” added Gumede.

The unlucky robber also landed in an enclosed area used for storage by the takeaway staff. Berea police’s Captain Thomas Naidoo and Warrant officer JD Sibeko had to and free the suspect before he was arrested for theft. The victim’s cellphone and boots were recovered on the suspect.

Computers taken in business robbery

Last Tuesday, at 5.15am, a man working at a business on Seventh Avenue heard a noise and when he went down a passage was confronted by four men who came into the office. “One of the men pushed him into the toilet and the suspects were not armed.

When the suspects left and the victim came out he discovered that four computers were stolen from the office,” explained Captain TD Gumede.

The computers were valued at R40 000. Suspects are still at large and Berea police is investigating a case of business robbery.
