DUT Vice-Chancellor resigns

Prof Bawa of DUT has resigned as vice-chancellor.

THE vice-chancellor of Durban University of Technology (DUT) has resigned from his post.

Alan Khan, senior director of corporate affairs at DUT said: “It is with deep regret and considerable sadness that Professor Ahmed Bawa has resigned from his post as vice-chancellor and principal. Prof Bawa has indicated that his resignation as vice-chancellor was influenced by his personal, family circumstances. We did try to convince him to stay and complete his second term of office as Vice-Chancellor but his need to be reunited with his family in Johannesburg is understandable.”

Khan said the university council will be ensuring that a recruitment process for a new vice-chancellor will commence within the next two weeks.

DUT thanked Prof Bawa for his visionary leadership and commitment towards our students, staff and alumni.
“Professor Bawa leaves DUT in a better condition and position after his five-and-half years. We are grateful for his role in steering our university over the last five-and-half years,” he said.
