SAPS task teams arrest wanted gang

Suspects wanted for a spree of robberies of supermarkets have been arrested by a special task force.

A multi-disciplinary approach by police units led to the arrest of six suspects this week. The arrested suspects aged between 18 and 60 years were wanted for various crimes in the province such as business robberies and murder cases. They were linked to two police killings in the province at KwaMashu and Gingindlovu. The arrested suspects will appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court soon.

On 4 January the KZN North Region Crime Intelligence Task Team as well as Special Task Team followed up information about wanted suspects at Mbongolwane area near Eshowe. The members went to an identified homestead where they cornered the suspects and arrested them. The suspects are regarded as dangerous and they are allegedly involved in business robberies targeting supermarkets at Newlands East, KwaMashu, Bhekithemba, Mayville, Eshowe, Maphumulo and Phoenix.

The Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the arrests. “Our detectives will work hard to establish if these suspects are linked to other business robberies and murders in the province” she said.
