Don’t fall for municipal job scam, warns City

eThekwini Municipality is warning job seekers not to pay money to con artists offering municipal jobs.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has issued a warning to all job seekers not to fall victim to a scam offering a job with the municipality.

The Municipality said people should be aware of any individual who claims to work for the eThekwini Municipality and asks for money to be deposited into a private account.

The city has cautioned job seekers not to pay money to con artists who promise them jobs in the Municipality.  It confirmed that the Ombudsperson and Head of Investigations Unit has received a number of complaints regarding this.

The con artist asks for money to be paid through money markets operated by chain stores. After paying, the applicants never see or hear from the scammer again. Needless to say they don’t get the jobs either.

Applicants are warned that the Municipality does not charge any fees for jobs. Any applicant who pays to secure a job is engaging in an unlawful act.
