Passengers ejected as bakkie and taxi collide

A ten year old child was critically injured after a taxi and bakkie collided on Friday afternoon just before the Tollgate bridge.

A collision between a taxi and a bakkie on the N3 Durban bound before Tollgate bridge on Friday afternoon  left twenty six people injured, three critically. Rescue Care Paramedics found passengers from both vehicles scattered on the national freeway. A taxi and a bakkie had collided before both vehicles rolled several times ejecting passengers from both vehicles. Three people, one of them a 10 year old child, sustained critical injuries and was stabilized on the scene. More ambulances were dispatched to assist in the multiple casualty scene. Once all of the injured had been stabilized they were transported to various Durban Hospitals.

Rescue Care Paramedics would like to urge people not to travel on open back transport as the injuries sustained in a collision are severe. It is unclear what caused the collision.
