Toddler dies in 8-storey fall

A two-year-old child died after falling from an 8th storey flat in Durban's CBD.

TRAGEDY struck in Durban’s CBD on Sunday morning when a toddler died after plunging eight storeys from a flat in Gillepsie Street.

According to ER24 spokesperson, Werner Vermaak, paramedics were returning to their station around 11am on Sunday when they were flagged down by bystanders on Gillepsie Street in Durban. A small crowd had gathered on the sidewalk around the body of the two-year-old little girl.

The child’s mother, who was distraught and in a state of shock, told paramedics that the toddler had been playing inside the flat with her other child when she fell out the window. It is not yet known what led to the child falling from the 8th floor window.

Sadly, paramedics could do nothing for the little girl who was declared deceased. The child’s mother was treated for shock.

The area was cordoned off while police investigated.
