Berea Sector One growing in numbers

Berea police’s SCF Sector one met last Thursday to discuss crime related awareness and precautions ahead of the busy festive season.

BEREA police’s SCF Sector one meeting last Thursday at Durban High School saw a large growth in turnout of community members.

Chairperson Des Moodley, outlined the various projects including the successful Know Your Neighbour campaign, which saw an increase in community members and a decrease in crime in the Sector. “Our long term vision is to have street leaders in each road in the Sector with about eight to ten members and about four vehicles creating visibility because our visibility is already a deterrent. Every set of eyes makes a difference and helps in an emergency. With our Whats App groups we have up-to-date information on all suspicious activity including locations and direction a vehicle or suspect is going,” said Moodley.

Acting station commander, Col WR Xulu said he was pleased with the turn out from the community, before going into some details of the station’s festive season plan to curb crime. “We will be having stop and searches at various spots throughout the holiday period,” he added.
