City refuse removal service resumed

The municipality has said all refuse services will resume in the City.

ALL refuse removal services have returned to normal. According to eThekwini Municipality’s head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa, there was a disruption in the city refuse collection services at the beginning of the week, but by Friday, all services have resumed and the City hopes to clear all backlogs by the weekend.

Earlier this week, local residents lodged complaints about the apparent lack of refuse removal in Glenwood. Resident Pieter Klopper contacted Berea Mail to complain about the pile of rubbish still lying on the pavement outside his block of flats in Che Guevara Road on Thursday. He said the rubbish wasn’t collected on Monday.

“There are maggots all over and the smell is unbearable, I can smell it from inside my flat. This is a health hazard for people walking past. I did contact DSW but they were not interested. I was given many numbers to phone, however my calls were not answered. I was told they would collect it today (Thursday) but they haven’t,” he said.

“The City apologises for the inconvenience caused,” said Mthethwa.
