Operation recovers 28 guns

Festive season operations recovered 28 unlicensed firearms in seven days.

MEMBERS of SAPS in KZN work tirelessly to remove unlicensed firearms from criminals.

Recently, members recovered 28 unlicensed firearms and 101 live rounds of ammunition. A total of 31 suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed rifles, shotguns, home-made firearms and pistols. The operations were conducted across the province from 22 November, running to 28 November.

The arrested suspects appeared in various magistrates’ courts.

“We are also investigating whether these firearms were used to kill our police officers while executing their duties. These operations will continue throughout this festive season to minimise violent crimes. The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes in the country,” said KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
