What's on in and around Durban this week.

IF you’re nervous of speaking to people you don’t know, or you get stage fright when you’re asked to do a presentation at work, then joining Toastmasters can truly help you.

Visit the Speakeasy Toastmasters Club on the third Tuesday evening of the month, at 5.30pm for 6pm at the Glenwood Boys’ High School.

SUPPORT Tuinsig Centre for the Aged and enjoy a fun-filled night of dancing and singing at the show, Viva Las Vegas, at the Barnyard Theatre, Gateway, on 19 November.

The show is a tribute to music legends that have rocked Vegas, including greats like Tom Jones, Frank Sinatra, Elton John, Britney Spears, Rod Steward, Michael Buble and more. Tickets are R150 pp and there are tables of 10 available.

THE South African Writers’ Circle will meet on Saturday, 21 November at the Westville Library (Room G4) at 11am.

Carol Campbell, journalist, published author and recent winner of the Minara Aziz Hassim Literary Award, will be the guest speaker. Her talk is entitled Writing the other: why it’s important to tell the stories of South Africa no matter what your colour or creed. A workshop will follow where those attending will have an opportunity to apply their writing skills – this is voluntary.

Interested persons are also invited to take a piece of writing to read out at a get together after the conclusion of the meeting. Visitors are very welcome. Please take a plate of eats.

GARDEN and House Plant Club will meet at the Musgrave Methodist Church Hall on Saturday 21 November at 2.15pm.

There will be a special demonstration by David Tighe of how make the miniature gardens, with or without bonsai, called Penjing.

CHILD Welfare Durban & District, Donation Station Charity Shop will host a jumble sale at 20 Clarence Road, Greyville Durban on 26 November from 9am to 1pm.

Donations of any good resalable items are needed, especially curtains, linen, men’s clothing and shoes.

All funds generated from this project are used for the services provided to the orphans and vulnerable children of Durban.

LAMBERT Road Baptist Church (114 Lambert Road, Morningside) will host a craft market on Saturday 28 November from 8am to noon.

A CHRISTMAS market will be held at 166 Evans Road, Glenwood, on Saturday 28 November from 9am to 2pm to raise funds to give Christmas gifts to the residents of Mothwa Haven in Glenwood.

Enjoy a fabulous tea garden with loads of wonderful edibles and unique gift ideas for Christmas.

Entrance is R20 a person plus a donation of a toiletry item. Raffle tickets will also be on sale with loads of lovely prizes to be won.

HEADWAY-NATAL will hold a craft market on Saturday 28 November from 9am to 1pm at 11 Menston Road ,Westville.

There will be a variety of stalls to browse including pottery, clothes, white elephant, books, crafts, cards, and more. There will also be a lovely tea garden and food stalls with live music performances by the Westville Senior Primary Orchestra and Marimba Band. There will also be a model train display.
