Eden learners spread Diwali cheer

Eden College spread good will and cheer to the elderly at Bartle House in celebration of Diwali.

STUDENTS, teachers and parents of Eden College in Durban engaged in a huge fundraising drive for the residents of Bartle House Old Age Home in Umbilo as part of their outreach programme to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights.

Intending to bring light and love to the home, which is always in need of financial and other assistance, it was determined that the 90 residents of the home, needed items that would keep them occupied and engaged during the long hours between waking up and bedtime.

Matron, Carole Oom said that the residents under her care spent days making puzzles and others loved gardening and board games. What was sadly lacking in the home was enough gardening equipment and puzzles and games to keep everyone occupied.

The Eden community rallied to the call and in three short weeks, raised enough funds to buy them wheelbarrows, garden benches, bird feeders and bird baths for their gardens as well as 20 bags of compost and dozens of sets of gardening tools and gloves. Boxes of puzzles and board games were also handed over. The residents were thrilled with this huge donation.
